Early Work

The earliest Sam Heman glass sculptures were made at the studio at the University in Wisconsin in the 1960's. These early pieces contain a certain crudeness and naivety as Sam with Harvey Littleton and his fellow students struggled to develop he first studio glass pieces in the United States. This crudeness and naivety could never again be repeated and thus they have a strength of their own.

This was followed by a period of development working at the Royal College of Art in London which cumulated in his exhibition at the Victoria & Albert Museum
